Purpose
Job modeling helps employees and management understand jobs and work in a whole new light. Job modeling ensures that all employees understand what they are supposed to produce, their role in the business and contribution to the mission and goals. Employees can adapt their performance to address changing business needs, particularly as part of technology changes or reorganization.
Process
With our on-line facilitation, in less than 3 hours we can produce together an electronic job description we call job models. The job model can be used to determine compensation, describe job competencies, identify training needs, and conduct the most relevant and easy performance review you have ever done.
Benefits
Existing job description formats are cumbersome outlines of ends to be achieved, but say nothing about how the work is to be accomplished. They are usually so outdated and time consuming to change that they literally become unusable and ignored in most businesses if they exist at all. By contrast, job models are easy to develop, keep current and have many uses (see Job Model Users Guide) that job descriptions don’t.
Because job models are based on an operational definition of work, they can be used to enhance communication between managers and workers. Imagine having one way of implementing all of the following:
- Better hiring guidelines to get the right people
- Better review of existing work performance
- Better coaching of on-going work performance
- Easier identification of skills and knowledge needed and where to improve
- Knowing exactly how job relates to others and what you could do to learn other skills
- Making work changes much easier to accomplish
